The tradition of celebrating Tammy’s birthdays started out in Israel. Uncle Meir was playing the guitar with her, presenting “A Room for Rent” by L Goldberg, as a puppet show behind the window in our apartment. This continued in MN, with necessary & understandable changes. Tammy’s friends were invited from the first year, when we celebrated her 8th birthday. Later on guests would also come to celebrate Jewish holidays with us at home.
On the second year of our living there, Tammy decided to organize for herself a “Half-Birthday Party” of her 9th year. This was a surprise one. Only her aunt, Shoshi, was in the house there. When mom returned from work (& it was dark already in the winter snowy day) she discovered to her surprise a girl & her mother leaving the house. The plan worked out alright!
