Tammy as a little Model

At Miriam Nursery school

Tammy was full of compassion: when we celebrated her birthday at school Tammy's Kindergarten teacher pointed out that she always picks up the child who seems sad, unhappy & in need of friends. On Tammy's 6th birthday party, when the children had to get in line as pairs, Tammy followed her habit.

At the same time Tammy liked to ’test the limits'; she often initiated practical jokes & she loved the opportunities to check the adults' reaction,

even if it meant getting caught.

(3 months later Rutty was born)

Tammy & the Carmelit (a subway trains in big cities in the world). It is shorter & it travels from the bottom to the top of the Carmel Mountain.

Tammy’s parents & teachers knew she craved independence from a very young age. One day, Tammy decided that after her Kindergarten day, she will “take the Carmelit” as an experiment in independence. At the time Tammy was a resident of Hadar Ha’Carmel Haifa for just a few short months. Her need to test out things was compelling. Thus, in her little bag she prepared change for the ride; she managed to get away (sneak) from her mother who was to pick her up from the kindergarten, & she got into the Carmelit going up the mountain to Gan-Ha’Em, quite far from home. On her way back in the same vehicle Tammy missed the station where she was to get off & get home. She ended up in Hadar Ha’Carmel, but this was quite far from home. Tammy identified the place, got oriented, and started to march from the station in Hadar all the way to Abbas St. where she knew her grandma Liza lived. She found the way, the house & apartment numbers.

While Tammy was climbing the mountain on her way to her grandma, mother was running up & down the stairs between the streets near their home in the Carmelit neighborhood. Aviva had to use a telephone urgently to  search fast enough, but no phones were available near by.  Eventually she found Tammy’s father at work and he made the connection with grandma & discovered the lost girl.
