About Tammy

2

Tammy was born on May 7, 1966, on the eve of the 33rd day of the Omer, at the Rothchild Hospital in Haifa, Israel. The hospital is built on Mount Carmel, thus that evening many campfires could be seen all over.

Tammy spent her childhood in Haifa, until age 7. In December 1973 & again in December 1977 the family was transferred by her father's employer, "Elbit Ltd" - first to Minneapolis MN, & then to New York City. Tammy attended Public Elementary School in MN (in English), then Kinneret Day School (Hebrew & English), and then Fieldston High School for Ethical Culture, both in NY City.

Tammy graduated from New York University with a BA in Education. She worked as a teacher at PS3, an elementary school in Green Ridge Village Manhattan, and later also in Family Academy Middle School in Harlem, NY. While working as a teacher, Tammy completed her MA Degree in Creative Drama and Educational Theater.

In 2004 Tammy realized her dream to live back in Israel. Her first residence was in Old Jaffa. Times were very tense in the south of Israel in those years: Hamas terrorists in Gaza continued to hurle rockets towards Israeli towns and villages close to the Gaza borders. Needless to say, the constant and sporadic bombardments on the civilian population led to severe stress and trauma. Through Malka, the leader of the Otzma group who visited Israel that summer Tammy started to work in Sderot, teaching Kundalini Yoga to women who helped other women who were responsible for children & their caretakers & thus were themselves under a lot of stress. On her way back from Sderot Tammy stopped in Kibbutz Yad Mordechai where she also worked with women using the same Yoga approach.

Subsequently Tammy became an English teacher at two Israeli-Arab towns, Taibe and Kalansuwa. Tammy enjoyed this opportunity to meet w population she could only recall from early childhood in Haifa & the students were very taken up with her. However, her  intention was not to teach English as a profession & when she was hired to teach Multi-Media at Naamat Hod Ha-Sharon Technological High School she concentrated on this. Tammy moved to Hagor and was settled there in a roof-top apartment, surrounded by trees.

In 2016 Tammy started to suffer from an ailment that was difficult to diagnose at first. As it progressed it became clear that this was cancer. Tammy succumbed to her disease in January 3rd 2017. May her memory be for a blessing.
